TG. CYAN- Wounded Warriors Project:

“The greatest casualty is being forgotten and the Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) Annual Warrior Survey reminds us to never forget the service and sacrifice of those who served.”

Committed to the support and progress of our nation’s veterans, The Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit that assists in the transition to civilian life for veterans, family members and caregivers. I come from a long line of service members and as one of the 1% of our nation’s population who has grown up as a Military Brat, and organizations like WWP stay near and dear to my heart.

With over 33,000 Veterans experiencing homelessness, 42% of all Veterans living below the poverty line after serving, and 148,000 Veterans reporting PTSD post-9/11 with women Veterans being 4.7 times more likely to experience moderate to severe PTSD symptoms, it is so important for us as a community to support those that risk their lives for the Freedoms we are afforded in this country.

TG. TAWNY- Alzheimer’s Associationt:

For those that have followed me for some time now, you know the personal impact Alzheimers and Dementia has had on my life in the last 4 years. More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimers and over 11 million people in the US provide unpaid care for those who suffer from the disease,

The Alzheimer’s Association not only provide’s support for those experiencing Dementia but also continues to provide research that will move us closer to a cure.

My first experience with Alzheimer’s was when I was 7 with my Great Grandmother Emma Walker. As an adult, I know have a better understanding and closer look at the true affects of Alzheimers and other forms of Dementia as a caregiver for my Abuelo and my Abuela who has a rare condition called Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy (CAA) which causes brain bleeding (hemorrhagic strokes) and dementia.

TG. FAWN- The Bowery Mission:

The Bowery Mission is a Christian organization that has served New Yorkers experiencing homelessness and hunger since the 1870s. Last year during COVID, the Mission served 258,000 meals and 56,000 nights of shelter.

With over 104,000 children lacking permanent housing during the 2021-2022 school year across New York City, The Mission provides children’s programs like the Mont Lawn City Camp in my own community of East Harlem and the South Bronx. That number was a rise of 3% according to a study published by the New York Times. As the city deals with a housing shortage and affordability crisis (even though there are over 60,000 vacant rent-stabilized units around the city being held by landlords) it’s important to lend a helping hand to organizations like the Bowery Mission who provide services for those experiencing hunger and homelessness.
